The Training Begins:
Once i got the go ahead to train 100% I did exactly that. Full gas. I was chucking in massive days to try regain lost fitness. I also had a great group of guys to train with and had a high level of motivation. All these things helped me get fitter and fitter day by day. I am now living at the top of a massive climb in Boulder...so the normal 5hr days I would do automatically turn in to 6hrs+. I had so many days around 6-6.5hrs and had a few 7 and 7.5hr days in there for good measure.
On a couple of the weekends I rocked up to a local crit just to use as training. I raced them hard and one of them I rode in solo for the last 45mins. This was when I decided to email my director and let him know that things were shaping up good for me.
I still had pain...quite severe at times...but I refused to accept that i had to take it easier. I rang my doc and he explain to me that because the fracture was in a non weight bearing area that the pain i was feeling was just the hip capsule swelling and would go down overnight or the next day. I was very happy to hear this.
So all this training...no real specific intervals...just a massive base with a few strengthies chucked in for good measure. This was the reason we decided to go to Mt Hood for 5 days of hard racing. I needed racing. I hadnt raced for months. Everyday in Mt Hood I got better and better and won 2 races there. I left there pretty wrecked but feeling confident of my form.
I flew back to Boulder for 2 day...then the next I was off to reading.
